Commercial and builder work is a different job from a residential yard, and the difference is rarely the planting. It is the schedule, the coordination, and what happens when the trade before you runs late.

Landscaping sits at the end of a build, which means it absorbs every delay ahead of it and still has to be finished for closing. Being useful on a builder job is mostly about communication: knowing when the fence goes in, when the drive gets poured, and what happens if the weather moves everything a week.
For amenity centers and retail, the pressure is different. Those landscapes get seen daily by the people they were built for, so they have to look right on the day they open and stay that way with sensible upkeep.
The grounds of a community amenity center: an open artificial turf lawn, a putting green, and planted beds wrapping the pool deck and the courts. Decomposed granite walkways tie the buildings together, and the perimeter is xeriscaped with yucca, agave, and native grasses set in two tones of gravel around limestone boulders. An amenity center is looked at every single day by the people who paid for it, so it had to read finished the day it opened.
The entrance to a Hill Country subdivision, which is the one piece of landscape every resident and every prospective buyer drives past. Cut limestone columns and board-formed concrete walls carry the planting, with native grasses, agave, and prickly pear set over gravel and limestone boulders. The entry drive splits around a planted island. All of it is built to hold up on a road frontage with no irrigation babysitting.
A commercial frontage where the landscape does the signage. The company name is laid out at building scale across the gravel forecourt in contrasting stone, framed by shade trees and clean strips of lawn along the street edge. It is a single idea executed at a size that only works if the setting out is exact.
A model home landscape front and back. The front is a curving lawn held by deep mulch beds with limestone boulders and an oversized concrete stepper walk to the door. The back is a turf lawn wrapped around a circular fire pit with a limestone seat wall, terraced down the slope. A model home is a sales tool, so it has to look its best on day one and keep looking that way through every weekend of showings.
A steep canyon lot turned into ground people can actually use. Cut limestone block retaining walls step the slope down in tiers, with planting between them and flagstone paths threading through. A circular paver patio sits at the bottom. On a lot like this the retaining work is most of the job, and it has to be right before anything green goes in.
The Perry Homes model home at Johnson Ranch in Bulverde, built around a wide paver entry walk flanked by corten steel planters and low brick knee walls. A custom home taken from bare graded dirt to a finished front landscape. The first photo is the installation itself, sod going down over a lot that was still a construction site. The last two are the same house once the beds were planted and the lighting was in. Closing dates do not move because the landscaping is not done, so this is the part of a build where the schedule gets real.

Completely out of their scope of work, but they repaired it as a courtesy with one of the owners doing the hand digging.
