Most turf that fails did not fail because of the turf. It failed because of what is underneath it. On caliche over limestone, with rain that shows up in a few heavy bursts, a base that does not drain or compact properly will ripple, settle, and hold water.
We spend most of a turf install on excavation, base material, and compaction. The turf itself goes down last, seams pulled tight, edges cut into whatever it meets, and infill brushed in to keep the blades standing up. A putting green is built the same way, only tighter.
It suits the places grass never really worked: the strip beside a driveway, a dog run, a shaded side yard, the patch under a live oak where nothing has grown in years.
Hill Country summers are the real test. Turf sits in full sun for months, and the base underneath expands and contracts with ground that is rarely still. Drainage matters as much as the surface does, because water has to get through the base and away rather than sitting in it.
Pets are the other test. A dog run needs a base that drains and a surface that rinses clean, which is a different specification from a lawn that mostly gets looked at. We install turf across the area, Bulverde and Boerne included.

Any surface in full Texas sun gets warm, turf included. Lighter infills and some shade help. If an area is in sun all day and used barefoot, we will say so before you commit to it.

Less, not none. Debris gets blown or rinsed off, and high-traffic areas benefit from the blades being brushed up occasionally. There is no mowing, watering, or fertilising.
No. Laying turf on top of grass and soil is the most common reason an install ripples and settles later. The old surface comes out and a proper base goes in.
It drains through the backing into the base below, which is why the base build matters so much here. On a lot that already holds water, drainage gets sorted first.
