The soil is rock. Most of Bulverde sits on a few inches of alkaline caliche over solid limestone. Planting a tree here often means breaking rock, not digging a hole. We plan bed depth, plant selection, and drainage around what's actually under your yard, and we bring in the right soil instead of piling mulch on top of rock and hoping.
The deer will eat almost anything. Whitetail pressure in Bulverde is heavy, especially in the newer communities backing up to greenbelts. Projects We’ve done in bulverde
The Reserve at Copper Canyon
For a recent project in The Reserve at Copper Canyon, we transformed a bare half-acre backyard around a newly built pool into a modern, zero-mow landscape. Instead of fighting the thin caliche soil with a traditional lawn, we designed the yard around two tones of gravel: white limestone river rock across the main areas and dark crushed gravel in raised planter beds around the pool. The beds are planted with prickly pear and Mexican feather grass, which handle Bulverde summers and water restrictions without complaint and keep the whole yard nearly maintenance free.
The centerpiece is a custom putting green with three cups, edged in cut limestone block with a taller fringe turf for a real green-and-collar look. We also installed a turf lounging pad beside the spa and set oversized concrete pavers with artificial turf ribbon strips leading to the pool deck, tying the whole space together. No mowing, no irrigation demands, no deer damage. Just a backyard built for Texas Hill Country weather that looks sharp year round.
Perry Homes - Johnson Ranch
We also handle commercial and builder projects in the Bulverde area, including this model home landscape for Perry Homes in Johnson Ranch. The design centers on a wide entry walkway of oversized concrete pavers set in dark gravel, flanked by matching rows of corten steel raised planters filled with geraniums and ornamental grasses. Low brick knee walls in the same blonde brick as the home tie the planters into the architecture, so the landscaping reads as part of the house rather than an afterthought.
